MLA Citation Guide (MLA 8th Edition): Advertisements

Formatting

Note: For your Works Cited list, all citations should be double spaced and have a hanging indent.

A "hanging indent" means that each subsequent line after the first line of your citation should be indented by 0.5 inches.

Advertisements in Print from a Magazine, Journal or Newspaper

Name of Company That Owns the Product advertisement. Name of Magazine, Journal or Newspaper Where Advertisement Was Accessed, Date, p. Page number of advertisement.

Works Cited List Example

 Louis Vuitton advertisement. Vogue, Dec. 2015, p. 5. 

In-Text Citation Example

 (Name of Company That Owns the Product)

 Example: (Louis Vuitton)

Advertisement from AdForum Database

Name of Agency, advertising agency. "Title of advertisement". AdForum, Date of publication/broadcast.

Works Cited Example

 McCann Erickson, advertising agency. "Girls Who Code: Why Girls Can't Code". AdForum, 2016.

In-Text Citation Example

 (Name of Agency)

 Example: (McCann Erickson)

  Note: Because advertisements in AdForum do not have page numbers, paragraph numbers or section  headings, this information is left out of the in-text citation.
